Travel agent Nakesia Washington was arrested for allegedly scamming a number of women out of tens of thousands of dollars after using her travel service to book accommodations for last month’s Essence Festival in New Orleans.
Washington’s travel agency, OBL Travel L.L.C., is under investigation for taking money from multiple women after selling them travel packages for the festival weekend. The women were expecting to receive concert tickets, hotel reservations, and party passes but Washington never delivered.
Washington’s company has 45 complaints according to the Better Business Bureau. The total value of the money Washington swindled out of patrons was $80,000. Reports say that Washington has been charged with theft of more than $25,000, theft valued between $5,000 and $24,999, and two counts of computer fraud.
Washington was arrested on August 2 and released on August 5 on $45,000 bond. Her lawyer expressed confidence in her being found innocent.
