To say that Don Imus created a stir, ever since he referred to the Rutgers Women’s basketball as being “Nappy Headed Hoes”, would be an understatement.
He surely dealt the first blow by attacking the race, womanhood, dignity, and pride of what these young women worked so hard to achieve. You can rest assure that blows would be dealt back to him, and they did. Initially, the most serious blow was a “slap on the wrist” by MSNBC, when they suspended him for two weeks without pay.
Now when you suspend me without pay for two weeks, that’s punishment. When you suspend a guy like Imus, who makes the type of money that he makes, that’s more like a vacation. So I was glad to see MSNBC upgrade his punishment from a “slap” to an “uppercut”, which hopefully will knock Imus out and keep him down for the count by canceling his morning show.
The decision does not affect Imus\’ nationally syndicated radio show. The ultimate decision on the fate of that program will rest with executives at CBS Corp. Hopefully, this is a step in the right direction in getting this bigot off the air. Only time will tell.
