Ever since Spider-Man put an ass whippin’ on the Green Goblin he’s had my respect. I watched the cartoons, read the comics and seen the movies. On Thursday, Marvel comics announced that Spider-Man will be doing his webslinging on stage in a major Broadway musical to be directed by Julia Taymor, the director who adapted the ‘Lion King.’ Readings for the musical will begin this summer but there is no set date or hints about who will play Peter Parker or Mary Jane.
I just hope they don’t make Spidey a punk dancing in confetti with a top hat singing ‘A Whole New World.’ If that happens I might have to replicate that ass whippin’ Spidey gave the Green Goblin. In 1966, ‘Its a Bird… Its a Plane.. Its Superman’ took the stage but it was received like a pimp at a feminist rally.
Spider-Man was created in 1962 by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko and the Spider-Man movies have grossed over $777 million in the U.S. alone with Spider-Man 3 coming to theatres on May 4th.
