Hello, WORLD! We have a little over a week before the season starts but what true NFL fan isn’t in full football mode right now? With a bevy of great (and not so great, thank you BEARS) preseason games already in the can, most of us football fanatics are salivating at the mouth waiting on Thursday, September 9, 2010 to see the start of this season with what should be another classic: a rematch of the 2009 NFC Championship game with Brett “I Will Retire….One Day, Maybe Soon, Maybe Not” Favre and his Minnesota VIKINGS versus the NFC Champions and eventual Super Bowl Champions, the New Orleans SAINTS.
Believe it or not, we diehard NFL lovers may not be the most excited group of fans around anymore. That title may belong to NFL fans that participate in a numbers game that is referred to as Fantasy Football. The gist of this game is a player picks various NFL players in a mock NFL draft based upon the number of various stats you think an NFL player will put up. For example, in the league I just joined, FREDZ on espn.com, and if we’re talking about receivers we have drafted, we look at the receiving yards, Touchdown receptions, etc.
This is the first year I’ve participated in one such league. Why? Simply put: I’m usually too busy enjoying the games on their own merits to be bothered with the stats of only a few players who I may or may not even get a chance to see that week or the next. It seems like a big hassle, if you asked me earlier. What happened to change my mind? Even simpler put: I hate knocking something I have not tried, so with that being the case, I’ll give it a go before I knock it any further than I already have. If I still dislike it, I’ll go hard on everybody that continues to engage in this game and if I like it, I’ll eat my own words regarding the whole matter. And of course, I’ll continue participating in this past time myself.
I can’t even tell you why my team is named CutlerIsGod. I do know that next year, if I do decide it’s fun enough to continue, I’ll be naming my own team thank you very much. My inaugural team does have Chicago BEARS quarterback Jay Cutler, along with Cincinnati BENGALS running back Cedric Benson and Green Bay PACKERS running back Ryan Grant, who lucky for me just came back after a concussion scare. For a full rundown on Team CutlerIsGod and ESPN’s FREDZ league, you could visit here. Wait…just got word I can change my team’s name. Good, because CutlerIsGod sounds so disrespectful to not just god, but all false gods, half gods and anybody that ever said “Oh, God” before. If you go and you don’t see my team, it will now be called Team BIZZEEmen. Cool name, huh? Well, at least it’s better than that boldface lie about Cutler. Well, it’s not much but it is one bit of news in favor of this game.
With that said, I’m going back to look at more stats. Not for this fantasy stuff however, I’ll be back with a look at NFL 2010-2011 Week 1 winners and losers. That’s it for now WORLD.
