Philadelphia bred rapper Cassidy is back with his first full length studio album in over three years. The album is entitled C.A.S.H (Cass is a Straight Hustla) and will be released on November 16. On Thursday, November 11 Cassidy held a listening session to preview tracks off the album at New York City’s Fight Club Studio.
C.A.S.H. is Cassidy’s first album released under his new label Kross Over Entertainment which is headed by NBA star Carmel Anthony. E1 Records will also help distribute the album. In a statement discussing why he choose Cassidy as the first artist to sign to his label Anthony said, “I’m glad to have an artist like Cassidy. Cassidy has been through so much and has a tremendous story to tell and I know people will like what he has to say.” Cassidy’s first three albums were released under producer Swizz Beatz label Full Surface Records.
On his latest project besides executively producing almost the entire album, the rapper enlisted the help of some of today’s most sought after producers which include Top Notch, Neo Da Matrix, Vinylz, Bink!, Boi-1da, Stoopid on da Beat, and Rulet Records. The album also features guest appearances from rapper The Game, Junior Reed, R&B singer Mya and Red Café.
As for the meaning behind the album‘s title Cassidy explained, “My album is C.A.S.H. It stands for ‘Cass is a Straight Hustla’. “Cash is street hustla, the best album I ever put together. It is executive-produced by myself and I wrote 99% of the verses”. “C.A.S.H is a classic,” the rapper added.
The first single released from the album was the promotional single Face 2 Face, a track produced by Bink!. However the album’s first official single Drumma Base was released in September with a accompanying music video.
TheUrbanTwist.com caught up with Cassidy at the listening session and had the chance to as him which track off the album took the longest to produce and was the most complex. “I would have to say maybe the song that was most difficult to get done would have to be ‘She Addicted’, Cassidy stated. “We was working a lot on that. Trying to get the beat right, get the singing on it, just get the lyrics right. I actually did the ‘She Addicted’ record over a few times. Actually one of the older versions of She Addicted got leaked before we finished it up with a different beat a different chorus and things like that before it was even finished. So I would have to say that record” he added. ‘She Addicted’ features vocals from Naila Boss.
Others who came out to support Cassidy at the listening session at The Fight Club included rapper Maino and recording artist Yahaira.
