On September 6th, it looks like we’ll be going back to Charming, California…
In a television landscape clogged with mediocrity, dying traditions (cancelled soap operas), and reality TV, 60 minutes of quality programming can be hard to find. The FX network’s highest rated drama, Sons of Anarchy, is an exception to the rule.
For decades, network television ruled the primetime airwaves, but these days it’s cable programming like Dexter, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, White Collar, and The Walking Dead that is winning the attention of fans and critics alike. Programming beyond the BIG FOUR networks (ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX), mostly enjoy shorter seasons (13 episodes at once or seasons split over the summer and winter months).
Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy returns with its fourth season on Sept. 6, 2011 at 10PM EST. The 90-minute premiere picks up 14 months after Jax (Charlie Hunnam), Clay (Ron Perlman), and other SAMCRO members in the club went away for those gun charges, leaving Gemma (Golden Globe Winner, Katey Sagal) back in Charming on house arrest and Tara (Maggie Siff) in possession of letters certain to stir up quite a few ghosts. Loyalties and hard-won friendships are sure to be tested as old secrets surface. Over the past few weeks, many iPod/iPad/iPhone users have had the opportunity to watch “appisodes” bridging season 3 with things to come in the new season. The app also features character bios and additional bonus content released when season three episodes aired. Don’t have an iPhone? Well, the app for Android users should drop any day now.
Brutality, blood, and explosions are to be expected for a show about a motorcycle club that runs illegal weapons for a living. Jumping into this highly addictive and well-crafted drama offers so much more complicated fare than the lazy and clichéd plot points that frequent far too many shows these days. Haven’t seen it yet? What are you waiting for? Check out your local stores or hit up Netflix which is currently streaming the first two seasons. What better time for a marathon than Labor Day weekend. Either way make sure that you’re watching FX Sept 6th for the return of my favorite outlaws.
