The original Waiting to Exhale soundtrack has been topping the music charts, paving the way for the sequel Waiting to Exhale 2 which is rumored to be in the works. In May last year, the announcement that the sequel would soon return to the big screen with the original cast left a lot of fans waiting in anticipation. However, with Whitney Houston’s untimely demise a number of fans were wondering what would be the fate of the sequel.
Fox 2000 Pictures made a recent announcement that the sequel would move on despite Whitney passing away. Elizabeth Gabler, the president of Fox 200 Pictures, explained “I don’t think she wouldn’t want it to. It’s almost in her honor that we think to soldier on.” Gabler cautiously implied that Oprah Winfrey could take over Whitney’s part adding, “We literally have not talked about anybody for that part. Forest, I know, is just…grieving. He’d been the one who was speaking with her, updating [Houston] on its progress.”
The romance movie was first aired in 1995 where Whitney Houston co-starred with Angela Bassett. Forrest Whitaker directed the riveting film which was an adaptation of Terry McMillan’s novel Waiting To Exhale. The sequel will also be an adaptation of McMillan’s 2010 novel titled Getting to Happy.
