Tyler Perry’s latest flick Good Deeds opened big at the box office this weekend, raking in an impressive $16 million. This is however expected, judging by Perry’s previous Madea-based movies which always raked in more than $20 million upon their debut.
Good Deeds made its debut on the 24th of February, and it portrays Tyler Perry post Madea. Gabrielle Union, Thandie Newton, Rebecca Romjin, Phylicia Rashad and Brian White are some of the actors featured in the film.
Perry takes the lead, playing Wesley Deeds who is a successful and wealthy businessman. Wesley has always played by the books, but his routine life starts falling apart when he parts ways with his fiancée Natalie (Gabrielle Union) and he meets Lindsey (Thandie Newton) who ignites a whole new world of possibility for Newton. He goes on a mission to help out Lindsey, who is a single mother and works with the cleaning crew in his office, get back on her feet. Doing this one Good Deed could possibly help Wesley live the life he’s always wanted, as opposed to what’s always expected of him.

The romantic flick shows Perry’s ability to take on other roles, other than Madea. He does a pretty good job, but the movie is a bit predictable and could have used a little more depth.
