Dropbox has rolled out a new feature that allows users to share files and folders with their Facebook friends. Thanks to the new feature, users do not have to have everyone’s email on hand, especially if they are in your list of Facebook friends.
The new feature makes sharing files more frictionless as Dropbox seeks to widen its sharing platform’s reach using additional tools. In order to use the new feature, you will have to first connect your Dropbox account to your Facebook account through a link on the top right side of the share pop-up page. This is the page that appears when you click on the share option of a file or folder.
Once you connect your account, the service syncs your contacts and you are good to go. When you choose the share a file or folder, click on the share button and when you start typing in a name, Dropbox will suggest names of people both in your Facebook list as well as from other services you have connected, such as Gmail.
This is a great addition to Dropbox that has so far made file storage and sharing very easy for business purposes and they seem to be now moving into the social space.
Recently, another service called Pipe also unveiled its Facebook application that allows Facebook users to share files up to 1GB is size on Facebook. The app is however still in private BETA.
File sharing is part of the social dynamic and the move by Dropbox and others to add it to Facebook definitely gets a thumbs-up from me.
