New York based design studio FiftyThree presents the new app called “Paper” which lets you draw and paint ideas and pictures on your iPad.
The idea is really neat. You can choose from different brushes, pencils and colors, you can create your own journal or sketchbook. Plus it’s really fun to draw with your fingers or specific pens on the iPad. “All ideas start on something” FiftyThree’s Andrew Allen explains. “Like napkins or sticky notes, but these get lost. We decided to create a company to solve this problem.”
At the beginning the app is a little uncomfortable. It takes a little bit of training to learn the maneuvering between pages and sketchbooks or how to rewind a draw line. But once you learned how to rewind a drawing without breaking your fingers it’s a really cool feature. You can rewind your painting all the way to your first pencil stroke.
Another maybe unfortunate fact of the app is that you have to pay money if you want to purchase additional pencils and brushes. The free app comes only with one pencil. If you want to get more creative you need to invest for every additional brush $1.99. To purchase all drawing tools available you will have to pay $8.00.

“I think people are willing to pay for a quality product” Allen explains why the app it not really free after all. “For sure, there’s always going to be disappointed people on the App store, who wanted a free lunch. We could have charged up front, but we really believe in allowing people to try before they buy, so they can see what works for them.”
But for free or not, the app is a lot of fun. If you want you can even share your drawings on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr or send them out via email.
