The San Antonio Spurs are headed back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2007. They defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 93-86, in game four of the Western Conference Finals best of seven series, completing the 4-0 sweep. En route to the finals, the Spurs also defeated the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors prior to beating the Grizzlies.
It will be the fifth Finals appearance for the franchise. All five Finals appearances have included the legendary duo of Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich. Duncan, 37, and Popovich are undefeated in their previous four Finals. The Spurs await the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers. The Heat currently lead the series 2-1, with game four coming tonight. For the future Hall of Famer’s in Duncan and Popovich, they will each be looking for their fifth ring. Fellow stars Manu Ginóbili and Tony Parker will be looking for their fourth ring.
Many thought that father time had caught up to the Spurs, but the Spurs found the fountain of youth, and now they are primed and ready to win a fifth title. The NBA Finals start June 6th.
