When Brian from Family Guy was killed off, fans were outraged and that anger was directed right at the creator of the popular cartoon…Seth MacFarlane.
MacFarlane said he was flabbergasted by the outrage fans expressed over the decision to kill Brian off. On November 24th, Brian, the Griffin’s family pet dog was hit by a car and later died.
The family replaced him with another dog… Vinnie. However, viewers furious with the show’s decision, slammed the web with their reactions and a petition was launched to bring the beloved canine character back.
MacFarlane listened to his viewers and brought Brian back. MacFarlane said he had no inkling the kind of impact the storyline would have on viewers.
He said he was very surprised by it – taken aback – that people cared so much about the character. MacFarlane said it never occurred to the team. He said he believed there would be a bit of an outcry but not to the extent that the rage occurred.
MacFarlane said the numbers speak for themselves. Killing off Brian was a reminder to people that the show can take any avenue even though it’s been on for so long.
MacFarlane said a similar stunt would not be repeated because it was already done.
Family Guy is centered on the Griffin family – parents Peter and Lois, their pet dog Brian and the kids Stewie, Chris and Meg.
“Family Guy” airs at 9 p.m. Sundays on Fox.
