In virtual realities, you can usually explore and interact with imaginary worlds, but TimeWalk comes with a different view of things. The American corporation aims to create a 3D virtual reality copy of every city in the world.
Imagine being able to explore New York, Hong Kong, Paris or Rio de Janeiro, all in the same hour. This experience can become even more intense if you choose to explore this platform with a VR headset like the Oculus Rift, although developers say it can also be explored from any modern laptop, tablet or smartphone.
TimeWalk will be a social networking platform. You can create a 3D look-alike ‘humanoid’ (or avatar), which you can use to explore the city and chat with other people, travel, work, shop, attend seminars and much more. With the help of the humanoid, you can walk into virtual 3D store of, let’s say, Walmart or Gap and try on clothes which you can order and get delivered to your doorstep.
The company just launched a crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo to get people involved in the development and exploration of this new realistic 3D virtual reality. Users can contribute and get early access to the DEMO version that will be launched in August or to the first version that will be launched in December. Users can also get their own 3D look-alike humanoid, get licenses to expand their business in 3D, get involved as developers, get licenses to upload 3D models into TimeWalk and can even buy virtual property.
The first version of TimeWalk will have just a few 3D spaces that can be explored, but with the help of developers, partners and independent users, the virtual environment will, over the years, be populated with 3D realistic copies of almost all the major buildings on Earth. Everything that exists in TimeWalk must exist in the real world, but the developers announced gaming possibilities also.
