The reigning Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks lost 30-21 to San Diego chargers in a match that saw the champions condemned to their biggest loss since Week 9 of the 2011 season.
The Seattle Seahawks had not lost by more than seven points since week 9 of that 2011 season, a record that was broken, courtesy of Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers’ 284 yards passing and tight end Antonio Gates’ three receiving touchdowns. Gates, 34 scored on catches of 8, 8, and 21 yards to tie his career high.
The pair have had an amazing career together, with Rivers throwing 65 touchdown passes to Gates, the most in NFL history between a quarterback and a tight end.
The 30-21 victory ensured that the Chargers improved to a 1-1 record and dropped the Seahawks to the same record.
