Dr. Ben Carson may have rubbed some folks the wrong way with voicing his lack of support for a Muslim President, but apparently he hit the right note with increased donations for a super PAC supporting him.
According to Jet Magazine, conservatives have taken notice and are expressing their approval for Carson financially.
“We sent out an email to Carson supporters, and we’ve never had an email raise so much money so quickly — it’s unbelievable,” the 2016 Committee super PAC chair John Philip Sousa IV told the publication. “My phone has exploded over the last 48 hours — of people wanting me to pass on to Dr. Carson how much they respect his truthfulness and believe in the American system, and how absolutely not should anyone who believes in Sharia law come close to the White House. The people are on Dr. Carson’s side on this one — sorry NBC you lose.”
The surge in funds comes after Carson’s stated that he “would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation,” during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday (Sept. 20).
“I absolutely would not agree with that,” the GOP presidential hopeful said.
Expanding on what he said, Carson mentioned that the only way he would co-sign a Muslim running for commander-in-chief would be if that person “publicly rejected all the tenets of Sharia and lived a life consistent with that.”
Sharia is the term for Islamic law developed from the Koran and traditional Muslim teachings.
“I do not believe Sharia is consistent with the Constitution of this country,” Mr. Carson said in an interview with The Hill. “Muslims feel that their religion is very much a part of your public life and what you do as a public official, and that’s inconsistent with our principles and our Constitution.”
