Spike Lee’s latest film explores gang violence in Chicago.
The film centers on gang violence by men in some of Chicago’s neighborhoods, and is loosely based on the Greek comedy Lysistrata, by Aristophanes. In the comedy, women agree to withhold sex from husbands and boyfriends in an attempt to broker peace in the city and stop the murder epidemic.
The Amazon produced movie has an ensemble cast which includes Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, Nick Cannon, Dave Chappelle, the rapper Sasha Go Hard, and John Cusack. Teyonah Paris plays the main character, Lysistrata.
Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate are teaming up with Amazon to release the film in a limited release on Dec. 4, followed by a release on Amazon Instant Video. Chiraq is Amazon’s first original movie.
