Amy Landecker, one of the stars of multi-award winning Amazon series ”Transparent”, is the latest star to be added to the cast of the upcoming Marvel epic ”Dr Strange”. Landecker can currently be seen in the comedy drama series based around the gender transition of a parent that has received a warm reception from both critics and audiences alike.
”Dr Strange” is one of a number of Marvel films set for release over the next three years. ”Dr Strange” focuses on Dr Stephen Strange, a brilliant yet egotistical Dr whose career is destroyed after a car crash renders him unable to continue his work as a heart surgeon. When a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him in how to defend the Earth against evil, he is given a new lease of life.
The news of Landecker’s casting comes very quickly after it was announced that Michael Stuhlbarg had been cast as Nicodemus West. The pair have previously worked together on ”A Serious Man”. ”Dr Strange” has also cast acclaimed British actor Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role of Dr Stephen Strange alongside Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mads Mikkelsen.
The film is based on the Marvel comic book written by Steve Ditko and has been adapted for the screen by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the writing team behind ”Sahara” and ”Conan the Barbarian” and Jon Spaihts, known for ”Prometheus”.
Director Scott Derrickson has taken the helm for this Marvel project. Derrickson has directorial and writing credits that include ”The Exorcism of Emily Rose”, ”The Day The Earth Stood Still” and ”Sinister”. The Marvel Cinematic Universe heavyweight Kevin Feige is on board as producer, alongside the usual executive producer Stan Lee. We can assume there will be a cameo in there somewhere too.
Landecker has previously worked on TV shows such as ”The Paul Reiser Show”, ”Revenge”, ”Louie” and the 2014 film ”Project Almanac”. She will soon be seen in the second series if the Emmy winning ”Transparent” which returns on the 11th December, as well as featuring in the upcoming Susan Sarandon film ”The Meddler”. Dr Strange is due for release in November 2016.
