Beyonce’s former bass player, Divinity Roxx, is ready to shine.
The alternative pop and R&B artist released her EP, ImPossible, earlier this year. The 12-track project provides a mix of smooth and eclectic sounds for listeners. One of which, “We Are,” got the music video treatment (above.)
In the track, Roxx lets listeners know that love rules all. “We Are” also features Black Eyed Peas’ Keith Harris on drums. (He also produced the song.)
“The lyrics were inspired by my former UC Berkeley professor June Jordan, (Poetry for the People), who wrote, ‘We Are the ones we’ve been waiting for.’ She is rarely credited for it.” said Roxx in a press statement. “‘We Are’ is more than a song, it’s the message I want to give to the world. We are the only ones who can positively effect the change we want to see in this world.”
Roxx was the bass player and musical director for Beyonce from 2006 to 2011. She also toured with Queen Bey during The Beyonce Experience, I Am…Sasha Fierce, IV and I AM Yours: AN Intimate Performance at The Wynn Las Vegas tours.
