Most parents are able to feed their child when they are hungry. Children tell parents when they are ready to eat. A child’s life is typically carefree. Children are not concerned with the stressors of the world. That is what makes it easy for people to travel back into the pleasantries of childhood. The typical desire would be going back to childhood, if given the option.

People are constantly told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. For so many families, breakfast is not an option. Today millions of children are being raised in households without adequate meals. Parents are working harder and making less. Children go to bed hungry and wake up the same way. Parents make snap decisions between bills and meals. Families struggle even with the help of government programs.

Children require structure and routines. The school day promotes structure and control. Nutrition is vital to educational control. Once a child arrives to school hungry, that child becomes distracted. Learning is impossible when the child is hungry. Hungry children are not able to focus on school work. A child cannot learn if they are consumed with the thoughts of where their next meal will come from.

Food insecurity in children increases their aggression. Food insecurity is not knowing when food will be available. Some children will act out when they are hungry and unsure of when they will eat. All children need to know when they will eat next. Children become unhinged when they are uncertain. Parents reduce that stress as best they can.

Nearly one-third of food transported in America is reportedly lost due to waste. This issue directly affects the food is available for dissemination. This amount of waste affects the food that gets to grocery stores, hospitals, and schools. The community is entitled to quality food. There could be a development of methods to reduce the waste of food and help reduce the number of families going to bed hungry. Reducing hunger in families can improve information retention in children. Children learn better when they have food to fuel their thoughts.

Multiple agencies are making strides to improve the availability of nutritional resources. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities discusses suggestions on how to fix hunger in schools. The article reveals that there are funds available to feed the students. Schools are taking more responsibility for students. Students do not have to learn hungry. Parents receiving government assistance, no longer have to apply for meal services at the school. Parents are focusing on the child’s attendance and success instead of food. Educators are focusing on teaching. Students are not distracted by grumbling stomachs.

Education is necessary. Students must learn. Teachers must teach. Schools must provide a safe learning environment. Families must focus on surviving. Eliminating food waste can improve education. Supporting families can eliminate the strain of limited resources. Learning hungry is not a healthy way to learn. Children need to feed their bodies in order to feed their minds.
