Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre magically became Barbie World last night, when Ryan Gosling set the Oscars’ stage ablaze while performing his viral hit, “I’m Just Ken”.
In a sparkly pink, broadway style performance, Gosling, along with co- stars Simu Liu and Kingsley Ben-Adir, sang, danced, and pleasantly surprised everyone. With additional appearances from the song’s writer and co-producer Mark Ronson, Wolfgang Van-Halen, and legendary Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, the crowd was swiftly transported back to the era of 80s rock oblivion.
Adding to the star-studded delight, were brief cameos from Barbie director, Greta Gerwig, and other co-stars Margot Robbie and America Ferrera who sang along from the audience. The energetic, yet nostalgic performance is already being described as one of the best performances the Oscars has seen in years. “I’m Just Ken” was nominated nominated for multiple accolades in 2023, ultimately winning Best Song at the 29th Critics’ Choice Awards. Currently, the song is still trending on multiple platforms including Spotify, on which it has over 100 million streams .
The 80s-style power ballad was also nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s ceremony, but lost to “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell.
