R.I.P. Shawty Lo. It it with great remorse I write this. I was very saddened when I woke up to the news that the rapper had been killed in a car crash.
The rap world is again in mourning, popular rapper Shawty Lo, born as Carlos Walker, was killed in a hit and run car crash overnight. Rumors quickly spread after the crash on I-285 in Atlanta that it was the rapper who had been inside the car but confirmation came via twitter. Radio personality, Ryan Cameron tweeted
Mgr Johnny Cabell has confirmed that @THATSSHAWTYLO has been killed in a hit and run accident this am. Real O.G. R.I.P. #zone1forlife
Walker’s 2016 Audi was hit at approximately 2:20 a.m. by another vehicle on I-285 going southbound at Cascade Road. The rapper car then hit a guardrail before catching fire. Walker was ejected from the car and died on the scene. Two women passengers were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening illnesses. The driver of the car who hit Walker and his companions did not stop to help nor obtain aide.
A statement was released via the deceased rapper’s Twitter account early this morning
“My brother has passed he is no longer here but his spirit, his kind heart , and his music will live on Long live Shawty Lo King of Bankhead”
Shawty Lo was best known as a member of rap group “D4L” and being a founder of D4L Records. In 2008 the rapper won a BET’ ‘Rookie of the Year’ award. There was brief talk of releasing a reality show focused on the rapper, his multiple children and 10 baby mothers. The show was the cause of so much controversy it never made it on air.
Shawty Lo last released an album in 2013 titled “Bowen Home Carlos.” Walker leaves behind 11 children. He will be greatly missed by family and fans alike. The Bankhead rapper was 40 years old.
