From his mega successful FX series Atlanta, to his number one hit “This Is America”, one can agree that Donald Glover, also known by his musical handle Childish Gambino, has become a force to be reckoned with. Now, he is also one with the force. Released on May 24, 2018, Solo: A Star Wars Story begins as a young Han Solo finds adventure when he accompanies an army of cosmic smugglers including Chewbacca. As an obligation to the crime lord Dryden Vos, the motley crew devises a plan to travel to the planet Kessel to steal some prized coaxium. In need of a nimble ship, Han Solo connects with the suave and smooth talking Landonis “Lando” Calrissian, former smuggler and owner of the Millennium Falcon. First appearing in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back as the administrator of Cloud City, Lando is introduced as an old friend of Han Solo, who was the original owner of the Millennium Falcon, until he lost the treasured ship to Han in a bet.
Originally portrayed by the iconic Billy Dee Williams, the Ron Howard directed Solo features Donald Glover as a younger, and even more charismatic of Lando, whose quirky puns and sarcasm shine almost as bright as his undeniable sex appeal. Charming everything from common humans to upscale droids, Glover makes primitive flirtation and mercurial wit seem so effortless. With its stellar screenplay written by Jonathan Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story is in theaters now.
