Hosted by the mega talented Tracee Ellis Ross, Tuesday night’s 2018 American Music Awards was full of delightful surprises. LA’s Microsoft Theater was a colorful array of authentic outfits, voluminous hairstyles, and of course, showstopping performances. Who was the best? That’s debatable. Who stood out the most?

There were so many. Who was the most talked about? Among those was none other than the hitmaking Cardi B. After gracing the stage to except her award for Rap/Hip-Hop Artist in her stunning Dolce and Gabanna gown and matching hat, we all thought that Cardi B couldn’t possibly slay any harder. Boy were we wrong!

When she returned to perform “I Like It Like That” clad in another showstopping ensemble, the Bronx Bombshell was slayage personified. Starting on a spinning platform and flanked by dancers, she was soon joined by fellow Puerto Rican recording artist Bad Bunny and Colombian singer J Balvin. Soonafter, the entire performance morphed into a flamboyant, whimsical painting brought to life. Containing a sample from the Pete Rodriguez classic, “I Like It Like That”, the hit single was taken from Cardi’s debut album Invasion of Privacy. The Latin trap-salsa banger was released on May 25, 2018, and instantly became an international hit, reaching number-one in multiple counties including the U.S.,Israel and Greece.

Written by all three performers, along with Klenord Raphael and Jordan Thorpe, the song was produced by Craig Kallman , J. White, Tainy and Invincible. As her equally famous husband Offset danced along with everyone in the crowd, Cardi was sure the leave a lasting impression. She did just that, taking home two more of her eight nominations, for Rap/Hip-hop song, “Bodak Yellow” and Soul/R&B song, “Finesse”. Cardi, keep it up, because we like it like that!
