Doctors reported that a Bronx man is suffering from a rare condition where his penis is turning into bone.
CBS News reports the doctors from Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center stated a 63-year-old man is suffering from a rare condition after he fell onto a sidewalk and complained about having knee pain.
After performing an x-ray on the man’s pelvis to examine other possible injuries, they made a shocking discovery.
“An extensive, plaque-like calcification along the expected distribution of the penis was evident.”
They said in a statement that the unidentified man possibly suffered from a rare case of ossification, an abnormal formation of bone.
Medical staff at the Lincoln Medical Center said they could not further examine the man’s pelvis but the patient decided to leave the hospital despite orders from medics to have a follow-up lab examination.
Various medical journals noted that penile ossification is very rare and still being researched.
Penile ossification remains a relatively rare condition being mentioned in very few journals.
