An American couple, who were quarantining in Mexico amid the coronavirus pandemic, was gunned down while driving their Jeep on Monday (Apr20).
The man, identified as 32-year-old golf pro Pat Landers of upstate Baldwinsville, and his girlfriend, Karla Baca, a physical education teacher from Texas, were fatally struck with at least 20 bullets as they drove their New York-plated Jeep on the streets of Juarez in the daytime.
Local authorities have opened an investigation and have yet to provide any motive. Furthermore, over the last three weeks, the couple, who’d just begun dating after meeting in Texas three to four months ago, had ventured down to Mexico to quarantine themselves. Landers leaves behind his son, Cameron.
Meanwhile, a friend of Landers, Dave Labarge, reacted to the news, stating, “He was a good dude. He had an extraordinary life.”
Furthermore, reports state that despite the stay-at-home order enacted on March 23, more than 100 killings have been occurred in Juarez this past month. Police believe the shootings are related to violence by drug cartels.
