Walmart just announced that it will stop the sale of “All Lives Matter” merchandise on its website in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement.
The retail giant noted that it is putting its importance on Black people and other people of color whose lives are being “impacted by ongoing racial injustice.”
The company clarified that items which are sold by third-party sellers will be removed “indefinitely,” after hearing from concerned employees and customers.
“We fundamentally believe all lives do matter and every individual deserves respect,” Walmart said in a statement. “However, as we listened, we came to understand that the way some, but not all, people are using the phrase ‘All Lives Matter’ in the current environment intentionally minimized the focus on the painful reality of racial inequity.”
Walmart’s latest move follows a series of actions taken by companies and brands that have decided to make big changes in support of the movement. It also comes in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd, which sparked discussions on police brutality, racism and racial in equality.
