Fans of Lorde were ecstatic to learn that she had reactivated her famous onion ring review Instagram account, which had been dormant since 2017. She didn’t just make a one-time comeback, either, as she posted a fresh review just yesterday.
Lorde’s culinary experiences this time brought her to Ponsonby, New Zealand’s Hotel Ponsonby. She gave an honest and supportive review of her food by writing, “Yoosh lads back with another ring message… We’re discussing PICKLED onion rings from the Hotel Ponsonby establishment, which is a first for this reviewer. I love the concept—I used to eat pickled onions straight from the jar when I was a kid—but I think if you’re going to go there, go all out and let the acidity, not the sweetness, take center stage. This is a fantastic batter, maybe the best I’ve ever tasted. “Overall ringsperience: 4/5.”
Lorde previously spoke with Jimmy Fallon about the account in 2017, revealing that she was the one behind it and telling him, “Now everyone knows about it and it’ll feel like something I’m doing to crave fame, then people are gonna be throwing onion rings at me on tour and it was gonna turn into a whole thing. It was fun for like five seconds, but I’m still going to keep eating onion rings.” In a post from her recent reviewing comeback, she also noted, “I’ve got to be honest with you, this reviewer stopped ordering onion rings after her identity was leaked to the press in the great debacle of 2017. I’d get a smile and a wink from waitstaff– it got embarrassing, you know? But it occurred to me that some things are too good to let the internet spoil.”
