Tones And I has returned to share her first single of the year, riding high on the success of her smash-hit 2019 track “Dance Monkey.” Tones And I brings her signature style to her eerie new track “Won’t Sleep,” which is known for its buoyant hooks and playful lyrics.
The eerie pop song was accompanied by an equally eerie video. It begins with two young children walking through the woods of their neighborhood in search of a mansion that appears to be throwing a huge party. Tones And I, who has totally turned into a monster, invites the kids to her party. The singer and a group of her fellow ghouls then perform a dance routine that pays homage to Michael Jackson’s classic “Thriller” choreography.
Tones And I described the track’s inspiration as follows:
“I loved writing this song and playing around with the production, the bass, and the drums. It’s a song about me and my friends staying home and partying through lockdown. […] When coming up with the creative for this film clip, I thought to myself, ‘Picture the most crazy thing ever’… and that’s what I wanted it to be. As with most of my videos, there are lots of prosthetics and different characters, and I had so much fun shooting it!”
