If you’re a fan of Lil Nas X, you’re probably aware of his past as a Barb or as one of Nick Minaj’s most ardent supporters, but it seems that his fellow Barbz are accusing him of using their queen for clout. Lil Nas X took to social media to declare that he would no longer talk about Nicki Minaj after receiving criticism for referencing her in his latest album. Lil Nas X sings about his life as a youth, which included a strong commitment to Nicki Minaj, in his new single “Sun Goes Down,” as well as the accompanying video.
Many of Nicki’s fans, however, claim that Lil Nas’ video was released at an inopportune time since it was released shortly after Nicki’s return. “To the barbz who feel [I’m] using Nicki’s name for publicity, the song I released last night was recorded last year,” Lil Nas X wrote on Twitter in response to the outpouring of rage from angry Barbz. And it’s about my life, which has been devoted to Nicki for the past six years. It’s not a fake romance. But I’m aware of how it appears, so I’m not going to bring it up again. ”In the lyrics to ‘Sun Goes Down,’ he rhymes briefly about his adolescent days of stanning Nicki. “I’d be by the phone / Stanning Nicki mornin’ into dawn / Only place I felt like I belonged / Strangers make you feel so loved, you know?” he says in the song.
