“Can you imagine being the fact-checker on the line when that call comes in?”
One of Jimmy Kimmel’s key takeaways from Donald Trump’s weekend visit at a Republican convention in Greenville, North Carolina was this. Even while the event was not shown on Fox News (which Kimmel compared to TBS not airing a new episode of The Big Bang Theory), the former president piqued the curiosity of the internet when some people noticed that his pants appeared to be on backwards.
Kimmel rightly pointed out that “usually if you went this close to Trump’s crotch, he’d give you $130,000,” when discussing the “detailed web investigation” that followed the vomit-inducing photographs from the event (close-ups weren’t invented for this reason). But he wasn’t finished yet:
“It turns out it was simply a horrible hallucination, as evidenced by these amusing headlines: ‘No, Trump Didn’t Wear His Pants Backwards at That North Carolina Rally,’ ‘Trump was NOT wearing his pants backwards at a weekend rally,’ says one source. ‘Trump Successfully Wore Pants at Rally: Report,’ and ‘Trump Successfully Wore Pants at Rally: Report.’ So, kudos to you!”
Kimmel went on to imagine what the calls to the fact-checkers tasked with investigating Pantsgate must have sounded like, and reminded viewers that “backwards-looking pants seem to be a problem for Republican politicians in general,” before sharing a few throwback photos of other GOP politicians in similarly perplexing pants-related situations. This shot of Chris Christie, which appears to have been snapped by Satan himself, was among the photographs. It seemed like the former New Jersey governor “tried sneaking a meatloaf into the game,” according to Kimmel.

No, you won’t be able to undo what you’ve seen.
Kimmel had more to say about Trump’s appearance—his first since February—in which the former president reminded onlookers that he has the best words when he uttered nonsensical sentences such as “We’re going to take back our country and we’re going to take it back at a level that is very, very… good.”
Consider yourselves warned.
