The animosity between Ted Cruz and Jimmy Kimmel reached new heights last week. The late-night host created a photoshopped nightmare of a naked man riding a hot dog (with Cruz’s visage). Ted called Jimmy “obsessed” while continuing to obsess over a video of “Me kicking his ass at hoops.” No one appears to be mature in this situation, though it should be noted that Kimmel is an entertainer, so dragging current events is part of the game, and Ted is a sitting senator who should have been attempting to avoid a government shutdown on Thursday.
Ted, on the other hand, spent time tweeting at Jimmy and threatening to mobilize Republican senators and shut down the government over Joe Biden’s “pissant” vaccine mandate (he also flipped over a Biden joke). Well, it all started earlier this week when Kimmel accused Ted of vilifying Dr. Fauci in order to “scare old folks” (which Ted and Tucker Carlson truly have been attempting to do). As a result, Kimmel revisited the topic (at the 2:30 point above), criticizing “desperate” Ted for tweeting during a late-night show when he should be working:
“Biden said he spoke to Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer, and he believes that there won’t be a shutdown unless somebody decides to be erratic, and by somebody, he means Ted Cruz, the senator from Texas. #HotDogTeddy, he seems to be desperate for attention again. Ted Cruz and I had an interesting back-and-forth today. Last night I posted a very nice picture of him naked, sitting on a hot dog on Twitter. This morning, he took time away from holding the government hostage to tweet… So I wrote back because it’s the polite thing to do.”
Yes, Kimmel kept going with this saga because it’s virtually a must on his part. “Dearest Ted, what a crazy romantic fantasy you transformed this into… I’ll see you in Cancun,” he wrote after retweeting the hot dog photo (while noting that Ted said it was Jimmy’s hot dog). #HotDogTeddy.”
Then came a half-hearted, non-dismayed remark about Ted not wanting the photo tweeted and “He doesn’t have time for foolishness like this.” He’s attempting to bring the country to a halt, okay? ”
Ted couldn’t pass up another chance to tweet a basketball gif on Friday morning. Cruz is known for his elbow shots, so I’m shocked this one didn’t come with one.
