On the CW, Ruby Rose only played Batwoman for a few episodes, and it appears that the reason offered for her quick departure didn’t convey the whole tale. Rose made headlines in 2020 when she announced her departure from Batwoman after the first season, citing personal reasons that quickly sparked accusations that things did not end amicably.
Rose has significantly modified her tune about why she quit the show a year later. Rose talked to an Australian program called the Kyle And Jackie O Show on Thursday, where she revealed a new reason for her unexpected departure from the DC Universe show: an allergy that prevented her from wearing the outfit required for the character, according to the New York Daily News.
“I did find out that I was allergic to latex … unfortunately, my mask is latex,” the 35-year-old beauty said during an interview on Australia’s “The Kyle and Jackie O Show.” “I was getting worse and worse, because as you get more contact with it, I guess you get more reactions. I took off the [mask] at the end, and my face was just hives. My throat was all messed up.”
“It was like it was out of a scary movie,” the “Orange is the New Black” alum added.
That’s a new one to add to the list of reasons to leave, and it appears that it was a factor regardless of any other interpersonal problems that may have played a role. Given how important a costume is in a superhero role, not being able to complete taping without experiencing medical complications would make it difficult to continue with a second season. But, considering all the other smoke surrounding her departure here, it’s more than likely just another twist in a story that’s only getting more complicated.
