Antonio Banderas has joined the cast of the upcoming Indiana Jones film, just in case Harrison Ford’s charisma and charm weren’t enough. According to Deadline, Banderas has signed a deal to star in Indiana Jones 5 opposite Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson. As of now, no information about who Banderas will play has been released.
The role of Antonio Banderas isn’t the only thing being kept under wraps. Lucasfilm has released astonishingly little information regarding Indiana Jones 5, including the film’s official title. What we do know is that James Mangold (Logan) will take over directing duties from Steven Spielberg, who directed the first four films in the franchise. Spielberg, on the other hand, is still very much involved in the production of the picture, and will be producing and managing various aspects of it. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel will join Spielberg in producing alongside John Williams, the man behind the 40-year-old franchise’s iconic theme music.— returning as its composer. Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Mangold co-wrote the script.
According to the latest rumors, filming has resumed following a brief halt in June when Ford had an injury on set. A Disney spokesperson revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Ford had “experienced an injury involving his right shoulder [..] in the course of practicing for a fight sequence.” Indiana Jones 5 is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2022, assuming the crew gets back on track – and no additional actors get hurt in what is sure to be an action-packed blockbuster.
