As many people adjust to living in post-vaccination America, the social calendar is likely to be dominated by engagements and weddings over the next few years as joyful couples decide to spend the rest of their lives together. This isn’t the case for this couple, who ran into trouble after a minor league baseball idea went horribly wrong.
On Thursday night, rumors spread throughout social media that a ballpark proposal went awry, with a woman practically sprinting away from her pre-fiancee after a proposal on top of a dugout.
The proposal was revealed to have taken place during a Worcester Red Sox game, and many people wished for video evidence of the event. However, the photographer whose tweet about the failed proposal went viral has stated that she will not be publishing photos from the event.
However, film from a “source” was quickly uploaded online by another photographer, which you can see for yourself below.
It’s easy to let your mind wander into the region of whether or not something is real in this age of vitality. Public proposals have been overplayed to the point of comedy, and this might very well be a viral video that we’re just magnifying by sharing.
Still! It’s objectively humorous in this case because it contains a very happy smiley face hovering nearby, as the WooSox mascot viewing what appears to be an immensely awkward event at close range is as close to a real-life I Think You Should Leave comedy as we’ll get.
The crowd’s reaction and the highly unpleasant footage that followed, with the woman freezing and then fleeing in terror while the crowd in central Massachusetts stares on in disbelief, makes it irrelevant whether it’s real or not. At best, it’s a compelling ruse, and at worst, it’s a very terrifying relationship implosion, but the lesson here is that you shouldn’t get engaged in a wildly public area unless you’re certain your significant other will say yes. Even then, do it in secret, away from the cameras that are waiting to see if your really precious moment will blow up in your face and make for good internet viewing.
