Another incident between an unarmed Black lady and law officers has been captured on video and shared on social media. A viral video shows a Kaufman County Sheriff’s Deputy pinning a lady to the ground for many minutes surfaced on Tuesday in the Deerfield Heights community of Forney, TX. According to CBS DFW, the sheriff was dispatched to the location after someone reported that the lady, identified as Nekia Trigg, was attempting to jump in front of automobiles. The sheriff can be seen lying on top of Nekia while she cries, “It’s 102 degrees out here. “It’s 102° out here. I can’t breathe. I cannot breathe.”
Antanique Ray, who is present at the time of the event, tries to calm her daughter down and begs the sheriff to leave her alone. While her mother inquires as to why the sheriff is preparing to handcuff Nekia, the sheriff continues to hold her down for several minutes. Two policemen from the Forney Police Department arrived on the scene as support and took Nekia by the hand while she was still on the ground. Antanique begs the Sherriff to let her daughter go, while denying that Nekia was the one who jumped in front of the automobiles.
She also questions why the sheriff’s body camera isn’t switched on and repeatedly begs for his name, but receives no response. When the sheriff took Nekia to the police car, Antanique attempted to intercede, and the scene swiftly deteriorated. Antanique was tackled and handcuffed by the sheriffs. She was charged with assault and interfering with an arrest, but she was released the next day after posting bond. Nekia was taken to a hospital and examined before being discharged. She was not formally charged with any crime.
