The Washington Wizards of the 2020-21 season finished strong, at least during the regular season. Washington finished with a 17-6 run to overcome an abysmal start and go to the playoffs. Despite injuries to key players like Deni Avdija and Thomas Bryant, Washington was able to leave the season with a less sour taste versus the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round.
Washington does not have a lottery pick because they made the playoffs, but they do land in the middle of the first round, giving them the opportunity to add quality. Even with the blockbuster Russell Westbrook trade that netted them Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the No. 22 choice in Thursday’s Draft, Washington can go in almost any direction in the Draft.
Perimeter depth, a long-term starting center, and organizational clarity are all requirements for the roster.
Corey Kispert (Overall No. 15), Grade: B
This is perfectly reasonable, albeit unappealing. Kispert is a clutch shooter with the size and athleticism to eventually hold his own defensively. There isn’t much upside here, but aside from Bradley Beal and Davis Bertans, Washington was devoid of shooting for much of last season. As a prospect capable of playing rotation minutes rapidly, Kispert should be able to correct it.
