Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen linked together for a stunning collaborative single, “Like I Used To,” back in May. So far, they’ve brought the song to The Tonight Show, and Jeff Tweedy, who recently covered it, has become a fan. Now, they’ve taken “Like I Used To” to Jimmy Kimmel Live, where they sat for a stripped-down, all-acoustic performance at Zebulon in Los Angeles.
“Even though we weren’t super close, I always felt supported by Angel and considered her a peer in this crazy world of touring,” Van Etten said of working with Olsen when the song initially came out. Many times along the trip, we gave each other highway high-fives…. In June of 2020, I finally summoned the confidence to contact her to ask if she wanted to sing with me. I got greedy and sent her a music I’d been working on in a hurry.”
“I’ve met with Sharon here and there over the years and have always been too bashful to ask her what she’s been up to or working on,” Olsen continued. The song immediately reminded me of going back to where I began, before music or anything was required of me, a moment that remains pure and authentic in my heart.”
Jagjaguwar’s “Like I Used To (Acoustic)” is out now. It’s available for purchase here. Olsen’s new ’80s-covers EP Aisles will be released digitally on August 20 and physically on September 24 via somethingscosmic. You can pre-order it here..
