The Other Two, an HBO Max original series, is returning for a second season, and Molly Shannon is getting a taste of superstardom this time around. Following the declaration that her 14-year-old son and pop star wonder “ChaseDream” is officially retired, Shannon’s character Pat Dubek now has a smash daytime talk show and has become the family’s top dog in the Season 2 teaser. Brooke and Cary, the sister and brother duo, are once again pushed to the sidelines. According to the teaser, they aren’t happy with their situation and are willing to go to any length to avoid being “the other two.” (Did you get it? Like the show’s title.)
The official synopsis is as follows:
Drew Tarver and Helene Yorke, your favorite rambunctious brother and sister pair, are back for a second season… Their mother is as well. Pat Dubek (Molly Shannon) is enjoying her newfound success as a daytime talk show presenter, courtesy to her youngest son, Chase Dubek (Case Walker), who is a new student at NYU. Cary becomes the host of a niche LGBT online series, Brooke switches “clients” (hint: it’s her mother), and Streeter Peters (Ken Marino) becomes closer to the Dubek clan than ever before as a manager-and-possibly-more.
Recurring cast includes Brandon Scott Jones as “Curtis,” Gideon Glick as “Jess,” Josh Segarra as “Lance” and Wanda Sykes as “Shuli.” But the big story here is Molly Shannon getting the appreciation she truly deserves for being a comedic powerhouse. Between this more prominent storyline in one good show, and her scene-stealing appearance on The White Lotus (another good show), it’s always nice to see Shannon get some primo screentime. The lady doesn’t miss.
