While it’s not uncommon for elder performers to be critical of the current crop of stars, Elton John is the polar opposite. BTS, Rina Sawayama, Phoebe Bridgers, Teyana Taylor, 6lack, and Gorillaz are among the artists he has collaborated with or shown appreciation for in recent months.
He also teamed up with Dua Lipa for his annual Oscars party a few months ago, and the two are now working on a new remix of “Cold Heart.” Pnau, an Australian band who has regarded John as a mentor for years, remixed the song. “Sacrifice,” “Rocket Man,” “Kiss The Bride,” and “Where’s The Shoorah?” are among the classic John melodies interpolated into the new version of the song.
“The last 18 months have been tough,” John says of the song, “but being off the road has allowed me to come back to my roots as a session player and collaborate with some incredible artists.” And being able to spend time with Dua, even if it was only virtually, has been great. She’s infused me with so much vitality. She’s a truly amazing artist and person, bursting to the seams with creativity and ideas. “I was blown away by the energy she gave to ‘Cold Heart.’”
