Elton On his 26th birthday, John wasn’t feeling the love, so he mistakenly snubbed a Stevie Wonder serenade, causing his publicist to cry. “I was in such a state of terror.” On Wednesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show,” the music great recounted the 1973 event, saying, “I felt so horrible.” According to John, he had wished to be left alone on a flight after a bad performance. His publicist urged him to go to the bar on several occasions. Wonder was waiting to sing “Happy Birthday” to him, unknowing to him.
After the PR tearfully spilled the tea on the idea, John surrendered.
