Surprisingly, rappers Lil Pump and Swae Lee both had criminal misfortune in Miami over the summer, but it appears that none of them will face punishment anytime soon. While Lil Pump’s car windows were smashed and Swae Lee’s jewelry was stolen in a hotel room theft, according to TMZ, Miami cops have been stopped by a lack of evidence in both investigations, causing them to close both until new leads emerge. According to a representative for the Miami Beach Police Department, all investigative leads have been exhausted for the time being, and no suspects have been detained in either case.
Swae Lee and Lil Pump are far from the only rappers in Miami who have faced legal problems this year. The city has become something of a hub for hip-hop, with a regular stream of news about arrests and run-ins that rappers have had there. In June, Pooh Shiesty, a breakout 1017 Records artist, was arrested and charged with armed robbery in Miami for stealing sneakers and weed and shooting the victim, Polo G, a rising star from Chicago, was arrested for battery against a police officer and resisting arrest, and DaBaby was detained and questioned by police about a shooting for which his Billion Dollar Baby artist Wisdom was later arrested and charged. I’m not sure what’s going on down there, but at this point, the Miami police have interviewed or arrested enough artists to start a label of their own.
