Soulja Boy aspires to work in the video game industry. He made headlines a few years ago when he began selling his own portable video game consoles, which were allegedly filled with illegal versions of popular classic titles. Now, he appears to believe that he owns Atari, a claim that Atari disputes.
“They signed me to a deal with Atari,” the rapper said in a recent video. A big thank you to Atari and the rest of the team. I’m about to restructure the business. We’re going to take Atari to new heights. Everyone should follow @Atari on Twitter. Atari is now my property. Atari is a video game company that I own. […] The first rapper to be the owner of a video game studio. We’re going to take it up a notch.” The rapper recently altered his Twitter bio to reflect his role as CEO of the organization.
Soulja’s statement appears to be factually incorrect, based on Atari’s response. “We know that CEO of Atari is a wonderful position, but that honor goes to Wade Rosen,” Atari responded on Twitter.
By the way, the firm that presently utilizes the Atari brand name isn’t the same one that released Pong and the Atari 2600 system in the 1970s and 1980s, as the brand name has changed hands several times over the decades.
