Ancestry aside, there shouldn’t be any difference between the teeth of British versus Americans or Canadians. Although people of different cultures and ethnicities may have teeth that differ from others, one of the key factors is how the two look after their teeth.
Americans for instance are trained from birth to believe that straight, perfectly aligned and white teeth should be the norm. This however may come from a desire to look like all the famous American celebrities, however, the concept of beauty has varied over the past few decades. Below, we look at the difference between the notions and care of both countries and what makes them stand apart.

A Case of Fluoridation
If you’re wondering who amongst the two have the worse teeth, we will try and settle this debate for you with a few facts. One such is in the concept of “fluoridation”. Many years ago, the water that we drink and comes out of our taps, didn’t have a popular substance known as “Fluoride”.
The addition of this one element has changed the way our teeth look and feel. According to the American Dental Association, fluoride in water is good for us. It has been seen to prevent tooth decay, it is safe and helps to protect against cavities.
When fluoride was not available in water, dentists found that they needed to treat more people who suffered from periodontal disease. Because of the lack of this substance many practices or private dentists had to constantly tackle cavities and teeth fillings. If today you go into any Mississauga family dentist practice and ask them about the benefits of Fluoride, they may tell you all about its history and how they have seen the changes taking place in peoples mouths, from when they first treated patients decades ago.
In the US, the quality of fillings as well wasn’t up to par and kept falling out. After introducing this element, the numbers decreased and nowadays, instead of helping to treat more patients, dentists try to do this but also have time for prevention of any unfavourable periodontal diseases. This practice has been spread throughout all 3 countries, the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Oral Care In All 3 Countries
Research has seen that British oral care has upped its game. British people have a reputation for having bad teeth, however, this has changed in the modern era and research shows that it is just as good as or even better than in the US. Americans do place a lot of attention on caring for their teeth, and getting them whitened or placing veneers in their mouth.
However, some studies show the opposite. A study that was published in an issue of a reputable medical online magazine – BMJ, showed that Americans may not necessarily have better teeth than the British. The comparison was done on 16000 Americans and British and Americans showed a higher number of missing teeth in comparison.
With the Canadians, it all depends on their ancestry, for instance, if they originated from French origins, they will have different teeth than those who came from Europe. Canadians however, would most probably take the British notion and would not necessarily mind crooked or yellowish teeth.
Studies aside, whether Americans have better teeth than British or Canadian are on the top of this list, it all boils down to individual understanding, that if you do not look after your teeth, you will regret it later in life.
