I can’t think of a finer intro than Lil Wayne’s on Run The Jewels’ nuclear explosion “Ooh La La” from last year. In a verse loaded with electric, face-scrunching lyrics, Weezy comes out swinging, landing haymaker after haymaker. If it appears that Lil Wayne would feel out of place on a tune with Run The Jewels’ anti-establishment rappers El-P and Killer Mike, he quickly dispels such thoughts.
The remix is one of the new tracks on RTJ4’s deluxe edition, which also includes a new mix of “JU$T” with Pharrell and Zack De La Rocha, the Royal Blood remix of “The Ground Below,” and the rebellious rap duo’s contribution to the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack, “No Save Point.” Instrumental versions of all of the songs from the original album are also included, offering fans the option to try their hand at rhyming like Lil Wayne on songs like “Walking In The Snow” and “A Few Words For The Firing Squad.”
El-P and Mike’s record RTJ4, which was released during the height of the pandemic quarantines, was subsequently named one of the best albums of 2020. Beginning in 2022, they’ll go on tour with Rage Against The Machine to promote the album.
