The Weeknd is well-known for topping the charts and winning honors for his music, but his most recent achievement is helping those in need. The Weeknd was recently designated the latest Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Food Programme, which works to end hunger throughout the world. According to @People, The Weeknd was named the latest Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations Food Programme earlier this week. He will use his massive platform to push for the end of world hunger.
Every year, the program provides food assistance to more than 100 million individuals in more than 80 countries. “The United Nations World Food Programme is doing essential and important work to change and save lives on a daily basis,” The Weeknd said of the distinction. “I feel passionately about solving world hunger and assisting those in need.” Our collaboration is a true reflection of all of our efforts and aspirations to assist people in need and put a stop to so much suffering.”
Also happy to have The Weeknd on board is David Beasley, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme. “We’re ecstatic to have The Weeknd join the WFP family.” His compassion and dedication to assisting the world’s most vulnerable individuals are genuinely inspiring. 811 million people go to bed hungry every night, with another 270 million on the verge of becoming hungry. This is simply unacceptable, and we must speak up and take action immediately to preserve lives.
We need everyone to come join our movement to end hunger – it is all hands on deck to avoid a global catastrophe.”Just last year, The Weeknd donated over $3 million to various charitable organizations, including a $1 million contribution to the U.N. World Food Programme’s relief efforts in Ethiopia, where his parents are from. Keep up the good work!
