On National Coming Out Day, Nevaeh Jolie, an up-and-coming R&B singer, came out as transgender after being inspired by others’ experiences (this past Monday, October 11). “Even though I never felt like I wasn’t myself, talking with ppl, I just knew nobody understood what I thought of myself when I looked in the mirror,” the singer, best known for the tune “Screwed Up” featuring A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, said in the caption of an Instagram post. And it was for this reason that I was depressed. A boy caught my attention. “I’m in the body of a girl.”
Nevaeh also revealed that he would start hormone therapy this week to help him transition, stating that with the help of therapy and the support of a loving circle, he was able to summon the confidence to make the announcement and share the news with the world.
He wrote, “There were also times when I just felt like everyone around me knew my secret.” “”I made a toxic version of myself, vilified myself, and told myself that I would never be able to love. After moving away from home and observing how my dysphoria (before I even knew what it was) grew, I eventually did what I had been dreading… “I went to the dictionary and looked up the term ‘transgender.'” After reading other people’s tales, Nevaeh learned that he could embrace himself, come out, and be accepted by others.
