Giving off rich, trendy, and unconcerned vibes is a reality for Tracee Ellis Ross, not just social media smoke and mirrors.
With her 10.4 million Instagram followers, the actress frequently shares photographs of her fashion sense, flawless beauty looks, envy-inducing tropical getaways, and more. And she’s inundated with messages that remind her that her life is a “entire mood” for many people. But the “Girlfriends” star isn’t sharing her private moments with fans to gain attention; she’s just going about her business.
Tracee Ellis Ross became a viral meme when fans shared a poolside phot of her drinking “rich b—h juice.”
“For me, it is genuinely a sharing. I don’t manipulate things for the internet. I’ve always been this person. I used to drive my sister nuts because I was always doing my little photo shoots,” she told Harper’s Bazaar for their November cover story.
While some of the praise is gratifying, the veteran actor admits that social media “can be a little scary.”
Ross, for example, uploaded a video montage of herself in pools while drinking wine and spirits during previous travels in February. It didn’t take long for fans to convert Ross into a meme, with nearly half a million likes and an equal number of comments.
“That meme where it says ‘rich b-tch juice’ [on the glass] … it’s a little much for me,” she said. “It’s really just tequila with melted ice. I don’t know how rich the juice is.”
In another part of the conversation, the famous daughter of icon Diana Ross and a near carbon copy of her opened up about being the “poster child for being unmarried.” Ross, 49, said that while she grew up wanting children and a marriage, she learned that waiting for such things to happen wasn’t an option, so she instead focused on living her life completely.
“What I would prefer is that I’m the poster child for living my life on my terms,” she said. “And that there’s a version of that for everyone. I don’t live for other people. I just totally live it for me.”
