This is a queen, and this is a queen! When a video of Halle Berry proclaiming Cardi B the “Queen of Hip Hop” leaked online today, it ruffled a few feathers. Halle talked to guests while promoting her forthcoming film ‘Bruised,’ which she directed and appears in, and praised Cardi for collaborating with her on the soundtrack. The album’s soundtrack features Cardi B, Saweetie, H.E.R., and other female artists for the first time.
“When women get together and get to share our own experiences, there’s a difference,” Halle told the audience, “and I think tonight you’ll see because so many women were behind the scenes helping to bring this narrative to life.” I hope you can notice the distinction. As the audience erupted in applause, the Academy Award-winning actress gushed over her co-star, Cardi B, who also served as the soundtrack’s Executive Producer.
Halle complimented her and declared herself the “Queen of Hip Hop,” revealing that she contacted the ‘W.A.P’ rapper and the two collaborated on an album that Halle believes is both historical and beautiful. While some fans praised Cardi, others chastised Halle for bestowing the title on her. Cardi wasn’t having it, as you all know. She quickly took to Twitter to warn people not to overdo it with Halle.
In a previous interview with Noisey, the Bardi Gang had Cardi’s back and reminded folks that Cardi said she wasn’t interested in the title. Cardi liked the tweet and also clapped back to a Twitter user who participated in the negativity.
