Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam released a song called “Long Way” in early September, coupled with the announcement of a new Vedder solo album called Earthling. He didn’t say much about the record at the time, but we now know a little more: Earthling will be released on February 11, 2022, and it will be his first solo album since 2011’s Ukulele Songs.
When he first announced the album, he also mentioned that “The Haves” would be released soon. The track was released today, thus “soon” was probably referring to a month and a half later. The song begins with a piano and acoustic guitar basis and builds in grandiosity as it progresses. “But we’ve got enough / All of the haves they haven’t / Not half of what we have / They want more / I just want you / Better believe it / I beg of you,” Vedder sings on the opening chorus.
The album will be produced by Andrew Watt (who has worked with Post Malone, Ed Sheeran, and Justin Bieber just this year) and will contain “special guest musicians,” according to pre-order pages. Vedder’s two recent songs, “Long Way” and today’s “The Haves,” are confirmed to appear on the album.
