Once in a generation, we’re lucky enough to have an artist who makes all the self-important auteurs in the world make sense. I’m referring to the troll, the ideal, dependable troll who provides calm and restoration to all of us who enjoy puns, practical jokes, and other forms of humor. In this example, I’m referring about Weird Al, the only artist who, in the same year or so, could flawlessly mock Kid Rock, correctly analyze a song from Megan Thee Stallion’s Something For Thee Hotties, and aptly parody Hamilton.
Not that the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is a super serious event that needs to be toned down, but if you’ve ever heard the announcers’ breathless anticipation for each float — or if you’ve ever lived in New York and been stuck in the ensuing traffic from closed streets on the day of the parade — this mild trolling from a supposedly oblivious Weird Al will make you laugh. Al is a pleasant little Thanksgiving treat, sitting in his flat checking email while a giant green and pink ear bobs down the road. Al, thank you for all the trolls, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Last but not least, on Thanksgiving, who is contacting Weird Al? Only wrong replies will be accepted.
